Some women break out and struggle with acne during their pregnancy. This especially seems to ring true if you suffered from acne during your teenage years. Hormones and androgen levels produce oil production which increases during pregnancy especially during the third trimester. The good news is that for most women, their skin will return to pre-pregnancy levels and the acne will resolve itself.
If you plan to treat your acne during pregnancy, please speak with your OB/GYN before using any over-the-counter or prescription medications. Some acne medications can harm your unborn child. Contact Women’s Health in West Bloomfield for an appointment to discuss the best treatment plan for you and your baby.
