5 Possible Causes of Painful Urination in Women

Painful urination is a common problem in women of all ages. It can be caused by a number of different things, ranging from infection to dehydration. Below are 5 common causes of urination pain in women.

Urinary Tract Infection

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common cause of painful urination. Bacteria that enter the urinary tract cause infection and is known as a UTI. A burning sensation when urinating is the most common symptom of a UTI. Other symptoms include urinary frequency, urinary urgency, and cloudy urine. People can experience harmful health conditions if a UTI is left untreated.

Dehydration

Dehydration is the lack of water and can also cause the urine to become more concentrated and irritate the bladder, leading to pain. Symptoms of dehydration include thirst, fatigue, and dark urine. Dehydration can lead to hospitalization if left untreated.

Interstitial Cystitis

Inflammation of the bladder is caused by a chronic condition known as Interstitial Cystitis. Symptoms include pelvic pain, urinary frequency, and urinary urgency. Interstitial cystitis can be painful and debilitating. There is no cure for this condition, but there are treatments that can help to relieve symptoms.

Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are another possible cause of painful urination. Kidney Stones come from hard and small deposits that develop in the kidneys. They can cause severe pain when they pass through the urethra. Symptoms of kidney stones include severe pain in the back or side, blood in the urine, and nausea. Kidney stones can be extremely painful and can require hospitalization.

Sexually Transmitted Infection

A sexually transmitted infection (STI) can also cause pain when urinating. Inflammation of the urethra causes this pain. Symptoms of an STI include burning, itching, and pain during sex. People can experience harmful health conditions if an STI is left untreated.
