As the leaves turn golden and the air becomes crisp, it’s time to adapt your baby’s skincare routine to the changing seasons. Fall brings cooler temperatures and drier air, which can impact your little one’s delicate skin. Proper skincare is essential to keep your baby’s skin soft, healthy, and protected. Learn more with Women’s Health and Menopause Center.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize:

Cooler temperatures can lead to dry, flaky skin. Opt for a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to keep your baby’s skin hydrated. Apply it after bath time and whenever their skin feels dry.

Gentle Cleansing:

Use a mild, hypoallergenic baby soap or cleanser during bath time. Limit baths to no more than 10 minutes, and ensure the water is comfortably warm, not hot. Excessive bathing can strip the skin of natural oils.

Watch for Skin Sensitivities:

Be vigilant for any signs of skin sensitivities or allergies, such as redness, rashes, or itching. If you notice any concerns, consult your pediatrician.

Be Mindful of Allergens:

Fall allergens like pollen and mold can irritate your baby’s skin. Keep windows closed on high pollen days, and regularly clean and dust your baby’s nursery.

We Are Here To Help You:

As a new mom, caring for your baby’s skin is an important part of their overall well-being.
Becoming a new parent is an incredible journey filled with joy and wonder. However, it also comes with its fair share of challenges and concerns. Understanding these issues and learning how to manage them effectively can help you navigate the early stages of parenthood with confidence and ease. We have the information you need regarding the three common concerns for new parents: colic, diaper rash, and teething.

Colic: Soothing Your Baby’s Discomfort:

Colic refers to excessive crying and fussiness in an otherwise healthy baby, often occurring during the first few months of life. While the exact cause of colic remains unknown, it can be a distressing experience for both parents and the baby. To soothe your colicky baby, try creating a calm environment, using gentle rocking or swaying motions, and providing comforting white noise. Experiment with different feeding techniques, such as burping your baby frequently to help with soothing.

Diaper Rash: Preventing and Managing Irritation:

Diaper rash is a common concern for new parents, resulting from prolonged exposure to moisture, friction, or irritants. To prevent diaper rash, change your baby’s diaper frequently, clean the diaper area gently, and apply a protective barrier cream or ointment. Allow your baby’s skin to air dry whenever possible. If diaper rash occurs, use a mild diaper rash cream or ointment and avoid using baby wipes with alcohol or fragrance.

Teething: Easing Your Baby’s Discomfort:

Teething is a natural process in which your baby’s first teeth begin to emerge. It can cause gum discomfort, drooling, irritability, and a desire to chew on objects. To alleviate teething discomfort, provide your baby with safe teething toys or a clean, cool washcloth for chewing. Gently massaging their gums with a clean finger can also offer relief.

As Your Baby Grows:

As new parents, it is normal to have concerns about your baby’s well-being. With patience, love, and our supportive healthcare team, you can navigate these challenges and embrace the beautiful journey of parenthood with peace of mind. Make an appointment with us or call us today at 248-932-9223 to ensure your baby is as comfortable and healthy as possible as they grow.

Menopause is a natural transition that marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. During this phase, the body undergoes significant hormonal changes, which can result in a range of physical and emotional symptoms. Achieving and maintaining hormone balance is crucial for the well-being and overall health of women going through menopause. Our team at Women’s Health and Menopause Center has the resources to ensure you live worry-free regarding menopause. Learn more about hormone balance with us below.

Understanding Hormone Balance:

Hormone balance refers to the optimal levels and interactions of estrogen, progesterone, and other hormones in the body. These hormones play a vital role in regulating various bodily functions, including menstrual cycles, bone health, mood, metabolism, and more. During menopause, there is a decline in the production of estrogen and progesterone, leading to hormonal imbalances.

The Impact of Hormone Imbalance:

Hormonal imbalances during menopause can result in a range of symptoms that affect a woman’s quality of life. Common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, reduced libido, and cognitive changes. Additionally, hormone imbalances can increase the risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, and other health conditions.

Strategies for Promoting Hormone Balance:

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): HRT involves the use of medications that contain hormones to supplement the declining levels during menopause. It can help alleviate symptoms and restore hormone balance.

Lifestyle Modifications: Regular exercises, such as strength training and aerobic activities, can help regulate hormone levels and improve overall well-being. A balanced diet rich in whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, supports hormonal health.

We Will Help You Live Freely:

Don’t let menopause stop you from living a quality life. Call 248-932-9223 or visit our Contact Page to book an appointment at our Menopause Center. Many women living with menopause have been able to enhance their day-to-day through our support.

Some women break out and struggle with acne during their pregnancy. This especially seems to ring true if you suffered from acne during your teenage years. Hormones and androgen levels produce oil production which increases during pregnancy especially during the third trimester. The good news is that for most women, their skin will return to pre-pregnancy levels and the acne will resolve itself.

If you plan to treat your acne during pregnancy, please speak with your OB/GYN before using any over-the-counter or prescription medications. Some acne medications can harm your unborn child. Contact Women’s Health in West Bloomfield to discuss the best treatment plan for you and your baby.

Around 15% to 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. That includes known pregnancies. The number is likely higher due to early miscarriages that happen before a woman even knows she’s pregnant. Most occur between week 7 and week 12 after the last menstrual cycle.

Signs of Miscarriage

Vaginal bleeding is the most common sign of a miscarriage. It can be heavy or appear as light red or brown spotting. You may even mistake it for your period if it is early in the pregnancy. You may also experience:

Fluid coming from the vagina

Pain that can range from period cramps to strong contractions

Pregnancy tissue or blood clots passing from the vagina

If you believe you may be miscarrying, you should contact your doctor right away. There is no official procedure for registering a miscarriage that happens before 24 weeks. Some hospitals may provide a certificate and/or offer funeral services.

What If I Miscarry at Home?

Some women have a miscarriage at home before they have the chance to talk to their OB/GYN or get to a hospital. If this happens, use pads to manage any bleeding. Try to save any pregnancy tissue you can. Your obstetrician can test it to sometimes figure out why you miscarried. You should get rest and contact your doctor as soon as you can to see follow up care.

You should be aware that while most of the time, the baby will be too small to identify, there may be situations if you are further along where you recognize it among the tissue that came out during miscarriage. It is normal to want to look at it, and what you decide to do should be left up to what is best for you.

It is best to understand what to do and what your options are before you become pregnant. It’s a situation no woman wants to face, but one that you should be prepared for in case the time comes. If you have questions about miscarriage, let us know. Schedule an appointment now to discuss risk factors that may apply to you.

It is helpful to know when you ovulate if you plan to become pregnant. Ovulation occurs when the ovum, or egg, is released during menstruation. It travels through the fallopian tube where it can come in contact with sperm for fertilization.

Ovulation with a Regular Period

Women with regular period cycles will have an easier time knowing when ovulation occurs. First, you should determine the length of your cycle. The first day you notice regular bleeding is day one. This is counted until the day before you started bleeding again (when your next period begins). There may be some variation, but this will give you a good idea about what’s happening in your body.

Ovulation occurs around 14 days before your next period. So if you have a 28-day cycle, then ovulation will happen around the 14th day. Your most fertile period is a couple of days before ovulation. A woman with a 28-day cycle should try to conceive on days 12 through 14.

Ovulation with an Irregular Period

Having an irregular period doesn’t mean you can’t get pregnant. It does mean that the process may be more challenging. You should begin by talking to an OB/GYN to determine the cause of your irregular periods. There may be an underlying cause that needs to be addressed before you attempt to get pregnant.

If you are healthy and have irregular periods, then there are some methods you can use to conceive. You can chart your cycle to look for patterns. This data may also be helpful if you have to go to a fertility specialist later.

You can also take your basal body temperature. A spike in temperature can indicate that ovulation is occurring. Another option is to look for cervical mucus changes. Cervical mucus is dryer early in your cycle but increases as you near ovulation. This material is clear and very slippery in texture. Some women compare it to the consistency of an egg white.

Contact Women’s Health in West Bloomfield today for a prenatal visit.
