Growing older is one of the things we cannot control. That includes the changes that come with it. There’s a belief that menopause is this long, horrible period in a woman’s life that makes her moody and miserable. While symptoms for some can be uncomfortable, the “change” is usually not nearly as bad as it sounds. In fact, some women find it liberating.

Yes, Some Women Will Feel Uncomfortable at Times

At some point, you will most likely experience discomfort during menopause. It may be the hot flashes or the mood changes. Women who already have anxiety or depression will need to closely monitor their mental health because menopause can sometimes make these conditions worse. It’s essential to keep your doctor informed to ensure proper diagnosis. It is important to note that not all mental health problems are tied to menopause.

Why Some Women Love Menopause

The truth is that some women love menopause. Their reproductive days are behind them, which means they no longer have to worry about getting pregnant. The pain and frustration of periods also goes away. No more menstruation means no more tender breasts, food cravings, or mood swings associated with periods.

How to Ease the Symptoms of Menopause

There are several things you can do to ease the symptoms of menopause.

Make exercise a regular part of your routine. The better shape you are in, the better you will feel.

Along with exercise, also eat a nutritious diet that contains the recommended amount of minerals and vitamins.

Talk to other women going through the same change. Support groups are available to provide support and advice.

The biggest thing you can do for yourself during menopause is to schedule regular gynecological visits. Your doctor can monitor your health and watch for signs of other problems. They can also recommend ways to help reduce or manage symptoms. Call Women’s Health and Menopause Center to schedule an appointment.

Many women come to our menopause specialty center looking for explanations for the symptoms they are experiencing. Some patients come to us after reaching out to other gynecologists or specialists. Some women have read literature that would make them believe that menopause causes headaches, obesity, aches and pains, fatigue, and memory loss, and think that these symptoms could be fixed by starting Hormone Replacement Therapy. We, the doctors of Women’s Health and Menopause Center are committed to our patients and are empathetic to their struggles.

We understand that many women experience weight gain, migraines, obesity, depression, anxiety, and fatigue. These symptoms may have a multi-factorial explanation, that is not simplified into “menopause”. We enjoy the process of gathering information from our patients with a common goal of finding appropriate treatment. Though, some symptoms can be attributed to menopause, some may not be and require additional investigation and alternative resources for help. Hormone replacement therapy, both bio-identical and synthetic is indicated primarily for the treatment of hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.

It is oftentimes, surprising and sometimes frustrating for the patient to learn that hormone replacement therapy may, indeed, not be the cure for all or any of their symptoms.

As your physician, it is our duty to listen to you, review your individual symptoms, and provide you with the most holistic possible care by tailoring a treatment plan specific to your needs. This may or may not include hormone therapy.

As specialists in menopause, we recognize that it is difficult to determine which symptoms are specific to menopause and which symptoms may be a consequence of the aging process and which symptoms may have an alternate cause altogether. We are sympathetic to the concerns of our patients and will always try to address your complaints and concerns. If you are noticing any symptoms or problems, please contact our office for an appointment.
