Alcohol sales have increased compared to 2019. Most likely this is partially due to stress from COVID-19. Although, it may be too soon to know the effects of alcohol consumption during the pandemic, we do know that there are known risks for the fetus and newborn.

A study by Vanderbilt University Medical Center researchers indicate that with each additional week of alcohol exposure during the first trimester of pregnancy, there is an 8% increase in miscarriage.
