Mary G. Cornelius, D.O.

corneliusBoard certified: Obstetrics and Gynecology

Medical degree: Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Internship and Residency: St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital

In her practice, Dr. Cornelius presents patients with the same information she has so they can make informed choices about their care. “With my patients, we collaborate and work as a team,” she explains. “I don’t tell patients what to do but give them all the choices and have open discussions regarding the potential risks and benefits of medical treatment. Then, we make informed decisions together.” She listens to her patients’ wishes and follows them as much as possible, including the wishes of obstetrical patients. “I’m open to birth plans and respect my patients’ wishes during the birthing process, making it a family-oriented experience.” Dr. Cornelius, while mindful of patient preferences, puts the health of mom and baby first. She views pregnancy as a normal part of a woman’s reproductive life, and encourages continued activities and exercise the expectant mother enjoys. Dr. Cornelius admits patients to Henry Ford West Bloomfield and Huron Valley-Sinai hospitals.

Specialty interests of Dr. Cornelius include pre-conception counseling, family planning, menstrual disorders, adolescent medicine, obstetrics, peri-menopause, alternatives to hysterectomy, HPV prevention and diagnosis, colposcopy, endometrial ablation, recurrent vaginal infections and vulvar disorders.
